Dr. Edward A. Dachowski, a Willow Grove and Horsham resident and a longtime general dentist, died May 11, 2009. He was 79.
Dr. Dachowski was born in Throop, PA. Growing up in a poor coal mining town, he realized the values of honesty, hard work, and the support of a loving family. His family moved to the Willow Grove area in the 1940’s, obtaining the opportunity for work at the Willow Grove Naval Air Station. As a teen, Ed worked on the flight line, preparing refreshment for the arriving pilots. His mother Anna worked in the main kitchen, and his sister Florence worked as a secretary. His father Edward Rudolph Dachowski was a carpenter for various government projects.
Ed graduated from Hatboro Horsham High School, 1947 and he received his bachelor of arts degree from La Salle College, 1951. Dr. Dachowski, attended The University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine, where he received his doctor of dental surgery degree. After graduating from Penn, he served as a lieutenant at the United States Naval Training Center, Bainbridge, MD. During his tenure with the Navy in 1957, he married Beatrice Grace Dachowski, of Hatboro, and returned to Willow Grove to open his practice of general dentistry. Throughout his years in dental practice, he maintained a friendly availability for his patients and his community. His practice of dentistry continues as Dachowski and Giannetti Dental Associates of Willow Grove.
Professionally Dr. Dachowski was strongly dedicated to excellence in dentistry and continuing education. He was a member of many national and local professional societies including the Montgomery Bucks County Dental Society, the Academy of General Dentistry (Fellow), and the Philadelphia Dental Clinic Club, one of the oldest dental education organizations in the country.
Dr. Dachowski, known to most of his patients as “Dr. Ed” was a very well respected, accomplished doctor who helped many during his dental career. He volunteered dental services to St. Mary’s Villa for Children, Ambler and St. Francis Home for Boys, Bensalem.
Dr. Dachowski was an active member of both St. David, Willow Grove, and St. Catherine of Sienna, Horsham Catholic Parishes. He was a member of the Knight’s of Columbus.
What he was most proud of was his family, his wife, Beatrice, and his six sons. A believer in the values of Scouting, his six sons’ Eagle Scout status was a fatherly goal that he proudly realized. Additionally, in Catholic Scouting, Dr. Dachowski was recognized with the St. George Award, during many years of service to the Catholic Committee on Scouting. During the Eucharistic Congress held in Philadelphia in 1976, he was a founding developer of a one time commemorative service award for attending Boy Scouts of all faiths, from all countries, called the Panis Vitae Award.
Both Ed and his wife were very dedicated to their sons’ education, enabling all of them to attend Norwood Academy, La Salle College High School, and various colleges and professional schools.
His interests included photography, the outdoors, jewelry making, carpentry, gardening, and cooking.
This talented, dedicated dentist is survived by his family of sons: Dr. Michael (Sharon), Drs. Edward (Alice), Dr. Damian (Susan), John (Susan), Christopher (Bonnie), and Stephen (Cristina), and his 12 grandchildren, and his nieces, Teresa Anne and Florinda.
Dr. Ed will forever be remembered for his devotion to his family and his profession.
He will always be loved, and greatly missed.
