Frank Carroll, 76, long time resident of Willow Grove passed away on Friday, January 16 at home after an extended illness. He was sustained by keeping the faith and by the love of his family and friends who had the opportunity to see him in a kind of a long Irish wake in his final weeks.
He was happily married to Margaret Dougherty of Willow Grove for 53 years. He celebrated his 50th anniversary by traveling to Ireland with all his children and grandchildren.
Born in Philadelphia to Francis and Mary Carroll, he was a graduate of North Catholic High School and LaSalle University. His sister, Virginia preceded him in death in 2001.
He had a very successful thirty-three year career as a salesman for American Greetings Corporation, where he received many honors and awards including Lifetime Pacesetter Award. He coached baseball, softball and taught religious education classes. In retirement, he was active at St. David’s parish, in the St. Vincent DePaul Society and he worked on the restoration of the 100 year old organ at St. Malachy’s parish in North Philadelphia.
His greatest passion was to be involved in the lives of his children and grand children and was well loved by all of them. He had a nickname for each child, grandchild, niece and nephew. A lifelong Phillies fan, he was thrilled to see their moment of glory in winning the World Series this year. He also loved music, history, Dickens and travel.
He is survived by four children, Michael (Linda) of Sacramento, California, Fran of Hatboro, Joan Scavuzzo (Charles), and Kathleen Franklin (Richard). In addition, he is survived by seven grandchildren, Brendan Carroll, Sofia Carroll, Michael Carroll, Sam Scavuzzo, Caroline Scavuzzo, Anastasia Scavuzzo, and Thomas Franklin.
