John "Jack" Folan, a 34-year resident of Willow Grove, died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at Abington Memorial Hospital after an illness. He was 74. A native of Norwood, Mass., Mr. Folan graduated from Norwood High School, in 1951, and Boston College, in 1955, where he majored in marketing. He served two years of active duty in the 8th Army Finance Corps in Korea. His background led to work in banking, sales and management. Jack was retired, having been employed as job services representative for The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Labor and Industry. He married Judith Ferguson of Worcester, Mass., in 1968. In 1974, his position in sales took them to Pennsylvania, where he resided until his death. In 1984, his compassion led him and his wife to become foster parents through Catholic Social Services, to Roseanna Torres, who they later adopted. An avid reader, Jack enjoyed sports and spending time with family and friends. He was well known for his prolific vocabulary, amazing memory, sense of humor, and very generous nature and spirit. During his lifetime, Jack was a member of the American Institute of Banking, the Norwood Elks, and the Holy Name Society, and was a grand knight with the Norwood Knights of Columbus. Over the last 30 years, he was a parishioner of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, Roslyn. He is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Judith Folan, his daughter Roseanna Folan, and a granddaughter Kathleen Von Colln. He leaves one brother, Paul Folan and his wife Joan, of Norwood Mass. and three sisters: Mary Praino and her husband John, of Richland, Wash., Doris Mason and her husband Robert, of Andover, Mass. and Judith Fox and her husband Charles, of Methuen, Mass. Two brothers, Peter and Dennis, predeceased Mr. Folan. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at John J. Bryers Funeral Home, 406 N. Easton Road, Willow Grove, where a funeral service will follow at 8 p.m. A viewing will also be held at 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13, at St. Denis Parish Church in Westwood, Mass., where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery in Norwood.
