Susan A. North, a longtime resident of Willow Grove, died peacefully last Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at her home surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was 57.
Sue aka Snooker was born on February 2, 1952 to John H. and Patricia A. North. She attended Saint David’s Parochial School and Archbishop Wood and Upper Moreland High Schools. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Saint Francis University in 1974 with a B.A. in English.
Sue was the owner of an independent consulting business, North Point Consulting and served as an Assistant Director of Human Resources at Bryn Mawr College. She worked as a human resources manager and information systems analyst at the Hartford and Prudential Insurance Companies and as a certified paralegal at Stradley, Ronon, Stevens, and Young.
Sue was very involved with and dedicated to the Secular Franciscan Order. She professed as a Secular Franciscan in 1984 and served for many years as the Regional Secretary for Saint Katharine Drexel SFO as well as the Vice Minister of the Living Word Fraternity.
As a member of Saint Vincent’s Parish in Germantown, Philadelphia, PA., she played an active role in the parish community and developed many close friends through her involvement with the choir and various church activities.
Sue had a loving and generous spirit. Family and friends were very important to her. She demonstrated her generosity by contributing her time, treasure, and talent to many charities including Best Friends, the Humane Society, and Seva. She was an advocate of the homeless and was actively involved with establishing My Place Germantown, a residence for homeless men. As an artist she enjoyed painting and drawing and could capture just about anything on canvas. She had a lovely singing voice and was a member of several musical groups including the choirs at Saint David’s and Saint Vincent’s Parishes and the Jenkintown Players theater group.
Sue is survived by a large, loving family including her brother Paul D. and his wife Maureen H. of Bel Air, MD, her sisters Linda M. and her husband Richard L. Behr, Jr. of Cherry Hills Village, CO, and Christine A. and her husband Edward Kramer of Denver CO, seven nieces and nephews, Tre, Josh, Morgan, Marisa, Scott, Daniel, and Danielle, Aunts Maze, Katherine, Agnes, and Francis, many wonderful cousins, and her beloved cats Skooch, Skat, and Sam.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and a Funeral Mass from 11:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday February 21, 2009 at Saint Vincent De Paul Parish Church located at 109 E. Price Street, Germantown, Philadelphia, Pa 19144-2145.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to My Place Germantown, 109 E. Price Street, Germantown, Philadelphia, PA 19144-2145.
