Dorothy A. (Boersig) Funk

Dorothy Alice Boersig Funk, 85, of Willow Grove, a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed traveling the world, died August 7.
Born in Philadelphia, Mrs. Funk grew up in the Frankford section of the city. She was a 1950 graduate of Frankford High School and went on to attend Fleischer Art School and Temple University.
Prior to getting married, Mrs. Funk worked for the Otis Elevator Company as a bookkeeper and statistician.
She crossed paths with her future husband, Donald E. Funk, for the first time at a party in Philadelphia for the Masons in 1957. They did not speak, but ran into each other the next day at 18th and Market streets when he approached her from behind and asked if she had a fun time at the party.
They were married October 25, 1958 at Frankford Presbyterian Church and lived in the Logan section of the city before moving with their two children to Hatboro and, later, Willow Grove.
Mrs. Funk was a member of the Red Hat Society and Huntingdon Valley Women’s Club
An experienced traveler, she loved cruises and vacationing abroad. Her trips led her to more than three dozen countries on four continents and included stops in China, Russia, Greenland, Germany, Iceland and South America. She also made several transatlantic voyages aboard the Queen Mary 2.
Mrs. Funk enjoyed gardening, fashion, dining out, going to the movies, talking politics and raising Boston Terriers.
For the last several months, she resided at Daylesford Crossing in Paoli.
She was the widow of Donald E. Funk, who died in 2013. She was the daughter of the late George Andrew Boersig and Dorothy Alice Tattersley Boersig.
Survivors: Daughter, Virginia Alice Funk of Malvern; son Donald E Funk, Jr. of Wyndmoor; grandson, William Andrew Funk Goodman.
