Obituary Elizabeth “Betty” Ivins

On Monday, August 6, 2018 Elizabeth “Betty” Ivins passed away peacefully among family members. She was born in December 1937 in Abington, PA. Betty lived in Penndel (South Langhorne) until she married in 1955. She then lived briefly in Bristol and then moved to Langhorne where she raised her family for over 35 years.  Betty retired to The Villages in Florida and then relocated recently back to Pennsylvania to be closer to her family.

Betty was reunited in heaven with her parents Philip and Margaret Tagg Smith and sister Barbara Smith Morris and her brother in-law’s William Hawke and Stuart Morris.  She is survived by her children Ken (Kim) Ivins, Jr, Phil (Cindy) Ivins, Beth Ivins Hoagland, Barbara (Kevin) Sadlowski.  She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild and includes:  Shane (Mimi) Ivins, Gwen Ivins, Mary Kate (Jarrad) Ivins Raytek, Megan (Nick) Ivins Chambley, Christopher (Linda) Hoagland, Matthew Hoagland, Amanda Doyle, Sandra Doyle, and her great grandson Gavin.  Betty is also survived by her wonderful sister Margaret Hawke and many nieces and nephew.  Betty will be greatly missed by her life-long friends.

Betty always led an active life and was involved with Catholic Daughters; the Democratic Party; Boy Scouts; Girl Scouts, including regional cookie chair; various book clubs; was a Eucharistic minister, loved to write short stories, travel and square dance.  She was known for her fabulous baking and Christmas cookies, her summer picnics and always helping people in need.

Betty graduated from Neshaminy High School in 1955.  She always thought education was important and so she fulfilled her dream of getting her college degree.  She waited until her children were all in school and then attended Bucks County Community College and received her Associates degree.  She worked a few years as a Neshaminy teacher’s aide for special needs.  Her dream was not fulfilled until she went to Trenton State College (University). She was so proud to receive her Bachelor of Science degree in 1981 and was on the dean’s list consistently.  Her career consisted of owning her own Square Dance Clothing Store, being a bookkeeper, and an elderly care giver.
