George F. Kernen, Jr., 90, a lifelong resident of Horsham, and Montgomery County passed away on June 22, 2019. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years Ann Kernen (nee Rehbeck).
Born on November 5, 1928 in Wyndmoor, he was the son of the late George F. Kernen Sr., and Julia S. Kernen. George graduated from Springfield High School in 1946 and then joined the Army. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War.
After returning home from the Army, George attended Spring Garden Institute for automotive training and began his career in the service station industry. In 1978, George sold his ARCO station and began working at JL Freed’s dealership in Montgomeryville, where he semi-retired in 1994.
George enjoyed countless trips to the mountains with friends and trips to the shore with family. In his later years, George could be found volunteering at DVHAA and enjoying activities at Gwynedd Estates in Ambler where he lived the last 7 years of his life.
He is survived by his children David, Teri McMenamin (Tom), Eileen Ottaviano (Jeff), and 6 grandchildren, Dan, Drew, Zach, Ann Marie, Anthony and Gabby. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty, and a daughter-in-law Christy Kernen.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Service on Thursday June 27, 2019 at 10:30am at John J. Bryers Funeral Home, 406 Easton Rd., Willow Grove, PA 19090. Viewing is from 9:30am to 10:15am.
Interment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park.
