Theresa “Graylo” Alvine (Burrell) Mason

Theresa “Graylo” Alvine Mason (nee Burrell) entered into eternal peace on October 28, 2017 at her residence in Ardsley, PA. Born on February, 17, 1939 to the late William Victor Burrell & Irma C. West of Deltaville, VA. Alvine was the third child of five, blessed from this union. 

Alvine graduated in 1958 from St. Claire Walker High School in Saluda, VA. She was employed at St. Phillips Hospital in Richmond, VA and Baltimore General as a nurse’s assistant. She moved to Philadelphia, PA in 1960 and worked various domestic jobs. Two of her longest and beloved employers were Claire and Mildred Sours and Elliott and Debbie Hirsh. In 1966, she was united in marriage to the late William G. “Bill” Mason, Sr. of Philadelphia, PA. In 1968, Alvine and Bill welcomed a daughter, Theresa Paula Mason into the world. In 1971, a second daughter was born, Tiffany Louise Mason. 

Alvine & Bill purchased their last home in Ardsley, PA in 1976 where Alvine resided for almost 41 years. Both her children and her grandchildren were all raised in this home. She was active member of Faith Community Church in Roslyn, PA for almost 25 years. She also attended Circle group at Carmel Presbyterian Church in Glenside, PA.

Alvine shared her love for cooking especially during the holidays. Her cooking was truly one of a kind. If you ever visited her home, you would never leave her house on an empty stomach. From her fried chicken, potato salad, ham, meatloaf, barbeque chicken, lasagna, pig feet, shrimp alfredo, sweet potato pudding, mac & cheese, greens, lima beans, stewed tomatoes, banana bread, brownies, lemon squares and much, much more. She was the happiest in her kitchen cooking meals and baking for those she loved and cared for.

 Her other interests included spending time with family, watching the Phillies play, watching CNN, any Home Improvement show, and watching the Food Network. She loved to garden, read her Bible, and visit her family home in Deltaville Virginia. 

 Preceded in death by her husband William G. Mason, Sr.; her brother, John W. (Mary) Burrell; her sister, Irma Marie Bray; and her Brother-in-Law Purnell Wood; and her Son-in-Law Andrew Dean Hertzberg. She is survived by her sisters, Martha L. Burrell, Edgewater Park, NJ and Nan I. (Alfonso) Webb, Deltaville, VA; Brother-in-law Rosco Bray, Richmond, VA; Her step-son, William (Barbara) Mason, Jr., Levittown, PA; her daughters, Theresa Paula (William) Blunt, Willow Grove PA, and Tiffany L. Hertzberg, Abington PA; her 6 grandchildren, Michelle Mason, William (Stephanie) Mason, Joseph Mason, Victoria (Tori) A. Johnson, Jonathan Paul (JP) Williams and Leon Jacob Hertzberg; and 5 great-grandchildren, Jessica Bollia, Joseph Mason, Katlyn Mason, Michael Rhaney and Avianna Hester. Her beloved prayer partner and good friend, Cass (Joe) Green. A host of a nieces, nephews, cousins and many other family and friends whom she loved and cherished.
