Alice C. Winter (nee Ginther), 94, of Huntingdon Valley, entered into God’s eternal kingdom on May 14, 2022. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John R. Winter, parents Daniel and Catherine Ginther. She is survived by her children, Paul Winter (Jeanette), Sandra Bennett (Albert) and Deborah Melnick (John). Alice was a loving grandmother to Paul Winter (Rachel), Michelle Ryan (Leo), Christine Morton (Michael), Richard Bennett, John Winter, Jennifer Melnick and Daniel Melnick and her great-grandchildren, Kayla, Daniel, Holly, Toni, Leo, Tyler, Jillian, Samantha, Kelsey and Nathaniel, and great-great granddaughter, Amelia.
Alice was a leap year baby born on February 29, 1928, in Ocean City, New Jersey. She was a proud graduate of Mastbaum High School Class of 1945. She met the love of her life, John R. Winter, at the end of World War II. They married and spent 62 loving years together attending various trips and doting on their grandchildren. Alice was a devoted wife, mother, aunt, and friend.
In her free time, she enjoyed sewing and volunteering at the former American Oncologic Hospital, now known as Fox Chase Cancer Center. Alice also participated in many activities at Gloria Dei Manor during her 19 year residency, before joining the Artman family this past December. She enjoyed vacationing at the Jersey Shore with her family. She was happiest when surrounded by her loved ones.
Alice was a very religious woman. She read her Bible daily and was very active in various church organizations over her lifetime. She was a proud member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Burholme until its closure and then found a new home at Christ’s Lutheran Church in Oreland. Alice was known for the beautiful Palm Crosses she made with her family which she gifted every Lenten season, a tradition that will carry on through her family.
Relatives and friends are invited to Alice’s Celebration of Life on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at 10 AM at Christ’s Lutheran Church, 700 E. Pennsylvania Ave, Oreland, PA 19075. Viewing in church will be held at 9:00 to 9:45 AM. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
