Barbara Dougherty Obituary

Frances Barbara Anne Dougherty was born November 20, 1936 in Abington, Pa to Joseph Vincent Dougherty and Helen Jane McClelland. Everyone knew her by her middle name, Barbara. She grew up at 512 Lincoln Ave in Willow Grove, Pa with her parents and her two older siblings, Muriel and Vince. Barbara was the baby by 15 years and looked up to her older siblings very much. She spoke of wishing she could go back to live with her family at 512 Lincoln Ave up until her last days. Barbara attended Melrose Academy, Class of 1954, in Elkins Park where she excelled at math and helped to tutor other students. She was also their beautiful May Queen. Barbara continued with a career in the field of finance and worked for IVB bank in Jenkintown and Elkins Park.

Barbara selflessly cared for others and was known affectionately by her own nieces and nephews and their many friends across multiple generations as “Aunt Barbara”. She created a home where everyone felt welcome. She gave from her heart without any expectations. Aunt Barbara devoted her life to making sure others felt special. She remembered the birthdays and anniversaries of her family and their loved ones, she sent gifts, made afghans, and put together care packages with special things she knew people liked. She always made it a point to ask about the people you loved so it was known she was thinking of them. She loved her family unconditionally.

She will always be our macushla, our darling. All is well.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Mary A. Kessler (Mark), Rev. Joseph V. Dougherty III, Judith A. Baldasari (Tom) and David J. Dougherty, great-nieces and great-nephews Meghan Norris, Jody Falcaro (David), Kyle Norris, Matthew Baldasari, Patrick Norris (Michelle), Deidra Norris (Chase), Ian Norris (Laura) and great-great nieces and great-great nephews Ciaran, Riley, Liam, Indiana, Alanna, Neve, Blakeslee, Malcolm, Robert, Margot, and Reese.
