Barry Beddis Obituary

Barry J. Beddis On August 5, 2019, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving  family.  Son of the late Charles and Dorothy (Ball) Beddis. Survived by his wife of 50 years, Jeanette (nee McGuinn), children Christine (Kevin) Reger, Carolyn (Vern) Haggard, and USAF Master Sgt. Barry J.,Jr. (Angela), and grandchildren Melanie, Heather, Julia, Erin, Jack, Brian, Barry, III ("Trey"), Sarah, Vincent and Patrick. Also survived by brothers Charlie (Sandy), and Larry (Rose), and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased  by his sister and brother-in-law, Dolores and Robert Furst. A 1967 graduate of Father Judge High School, Barry served on the Philadelphia Police Department from 1970 to 1984, followed by a long career with Jefferson Hospital Security. Grateful 1996 Heart Transplant recipient, after which he returned to his career at Jefferson as well as doing volunteer work delivering food to shut-ins for Aid for Friends and driving the shuttle for Gift of Life. Before moving to Huntingdon Valley, he was a member of Christ the King Parish in Philadelphia for 34 years, serving as a softball coach for many of those years. One of the things he enjoyed most was spending his Christmas Eves playing Santa in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Jefferson Hospital so the newborns could have their first "Santa and Me" picture taken. Our thanks to all the medical personnel, too numerous to mention individually, who have pulled him through each crisis over the last 36 years.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Thursday evening August 8, 2019 from 6pm to 8pm, and on Friday Morning August 9, 2019 from 9am to 9:45am at St. Albert the Great RC Church, 212 Welsh Rd, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006.  Funeral Mass to follow on Friday at 10am.

Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to Penney Girls Foundation - Barry Beddis, 8120 Woodmont Ave., Suite 410, Bethesda, MD 20814, would be appreciated.
