Cecilia Mary Farragher

Cecilia Mary Farragher passed away on October 27, 2024. She was predeceased by her parents, Hannah and Thomas Farragher, who immigrated from County Donegal and County Galway, Ireland respectively to Philadelphia, PA in the early 1920’s. Also predeceased by her brother, Thomas Farragher, Jr.

Surviving Cecilia are her beloved children: Stephen Dougherty, C. Ann Wank (Daniel), Kenneth Dougherty (Krista), and Donald Dougherty (Catherine).  She was the proud “Nana” to grandchildren: Tyler, Justin, Abigail, Bradley, Jake, Hannah, Grace, Maura, and Ruby.  

Cecilia was exceptionally proud of her “first generation” Irish heritage. Throughout her life she was drawn to Irish culture. In her younger years she enjoyed Irish step dancing. She remained fascinated by Irish music, traditions, and myth. 

After elementary school at Holy Cross Parish she graduated from Cecilian Academy, and subsequently attended Peirce Business College in Philadelphia.  Her first professional employment was at Lippincott Publishing House in Philadelphia. It was an ideal experience because she remained an avid reader throughout her life. 

Following fifteen stay-at-home years raising her family, she rejoined the workforce at a local Savings and Loan for ten years, then joined a law firm as a paralegal for the next ten years.  Subsequently she was appointed as the Administrative Secretary for the Abington Board of School Directors. She remained at that post for twenty plus years, retiring in 2010. 

Relatives and friends are welcome to join the Celebration of Life Requiem Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 259 Forest Avenue, Ambler, PA 19002 on November 4, 2024 for a calling at 9:30 -10:15.    Words of Remembrance 10:15  Mass at 10:30
