Diane Schlachter Obituary

Diane Ester (Lyons) Schlachter died peacefully Friday, July 18, 2025 at her home, surrounded by her family, due to Acute Myeloid Leukemia.  She was 72 years old.  Diane was born May 4, 1953 in Philadelphia to the late John and Ester Lyons.  Diane was adored by her late husband of 48 years, Leonard; mother of Christy Schlachter, and her late son John Schlachter and his wife Lauren.  She was the loving grandmother of Haley Harman, and Jack and Julia Schlachter; sister to the late Linda and William Morris, and William and Doris Schlachter.  She is also survived by her nieces, Amanda Pfeiffer, Allison Cleary, Rebecca Wheeler and nephew William Schlachter.

Diane grew up in the Fox Chase neighborhood of Philadelphia.  She graduated from Northeast High School in 1970, and went on to higher education at East Stroudsburg University.  Even though they lived 15 minutes apart in Philadelphia, Diane met her beloved Lenny at ESU.  Anyone who knew her, knew how much she loved and adored her family, they were the focus of her life.  She worked for the School District of Philadelphia for over 20 plus years, educating thousands of inner city children.

Diane’s faith journey began while growing up and attending Fox Chase United Methodist Church.  She was a member of youth group as a young girl and as she got older became a very active member. She was a youth counselor for 25 years with her husband Lenny, led Sunday school, taught and ran Vacation Bible School, and was on various committees.  Diane and Lenny eventually joined Calvary Presbyterian Church, where they happily spent their later years.  Her faith and her connection to her church family were very meaningful to her.

Diane was an extremely kind and selfless individual; she lit up every room she was in with her smile and laid back personality.  She would help anyone, anytime, any place.  She had a love for children and was a role model for so many over the years as both an educator and as a youth counselor.  Every child she touched was substantially better just from knowing her.   Diane showed understanding, patience and love to all of her students.  She was truly meant to be an educator.

Diane loved spending time with her family.  She adored her grandchildren and was always there for her own children, John and Christy.  She was also a very dedicated, loyal and loving sister to Linda, Bill, Doris and William.   Their families took many vacations together throughout the years.  She cherished each and every one.  Diane also loved her dogs, she always had a dog in all the stages of her life and spoiled each and every one of them.  She enjoyed spending time with her friends talking for hours about life and past memories.  Diane is now at peace and in the loving arms of our Savior and reunited with her son, John and her husband, Lenny.  Her beautiful memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her forever.

Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Monday July 28, 2025 from 10:30am to 11:15am at Calvary Presbyterian Church. 405 Easton RD. Willow Grove, PA 19090.  Funeral Service will follow at 11:30am.
