Elizabeth Ann (nee Beck) Tirney was called to the Lord on February 19, 2023, she was 84 years.
Betty was a first-generation Austrian and born on November 21, 1938 in Philadelphia. She was the daughter of Joseph and Evelyn Beck (nee Steiner) and the sister of Rita Vaxner. Betty was the loving and beloved wife of Thomas R. Tirney with whom she shared 59 years of marriage,
She attended Little Flower High School in Philadelphia and graduated in 1956, after which she attended the Peirce School of Business Administration. Her work career included jobs at Smith, Kline & French Laboratories and Philadelphia Magazine.
Betty loved traveling and playing tennis. She was a committed and tireless mother and homemaker. She supported her three boys by attending their never-ending football, baseball, and soccer games.
Betty survived lifesaving surgery in 1988 at Sloan, Kettering in New York City and continued a valiant fight against cancer the rest of her life.
Betty is survived by her husband and her children--Sean, Tommy, and Joel—and her grandchildren: Liam, Aislin, Mackey, Faye, Alexandra, Evelyn, and Colton. She will be sorely missed by them and her innumerable relatives: the Steiners, the Becks, and the Tirneys. She is also remembered by her countless friends from Philadelphia, Burlington, Mountain Lakes, the Mountain House, St. Maarten, and Pine Mill Circle.
Relatives and friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 AM prior to a 10:30 AM Funeral Mass at The Nativity of Our Lord in Warminster on Friday, February 24. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls in Philadelphia.
