George Wilbur Hornsby, Jr., 94, formerly of Newtown Square, PA passed away on May 19, 2021 at his home in Stone Harbor, NJ surrounded by loved ones.
Born on August 6, 1926 in Bryn Mawr, PA to George Wilbur and Mary Hornsby (nee Wells), he was a 1944 graduate of Haverford High School and a 1950 graduate of the University of Miami.
He retired in 1998 as a Vice-President with Aramark. Previously, he worked for Macke Building Services and Building Maintenance, Inc. After retiring, he wintered at Harbour Ridge Yacht and Country Club in Stuart, FL where he was an avid golfer, enjoying many Men's Member- Guest tournaments with his son-in-law Ken.
A member of the American Legion, he proudly served in the United States Navy in World War II. George was a life-long member of Wayne United Methodist Church, Wayne, PA.
In his 94 years, George had countless meaningful friendships which he treasured. He lived life by his motto "Life is good" and was a true patriarch. He will be missed by many, but especially by his loving family.
He was predeceased by his parents George and Mary Hornsby, his brother, Robert N. Hornsby and his loving wife of 34 years, Ethelyn Keighler Hornsby.
He is survived by three children, George H. Hornsby (Carol) of Charlottesville, VA, Lynn M. Zimmer (Kenneth) of Moorestown, NJ and Karen L. Small (Stephen) of Sewell, NJ, eight grandchildren, Nicole Edgar (Chris), Madison Hornsby (Ben), Kevin Zimmer (Amanda), Harrison Hornsby (Lauren), Spencer Hornsby (Amber), Scott Zimmer (Alexa Massa) , Katherine Nevins and John Nevins. His greatest joy was becoming a great-grandfather to Connor and Caden Edgar and Brooke Ethelyn Hornsby. He is also survived by his devoted friend of 25 years, Patricia A. McMillen of Gaithersburg, MD.
Services and interment will be private.
