Gerald Patrick Spearing Obituary

Gerald Patrick Spearing passed away from us suddenly of natural causes on Thursday, April 24th, at 36 years old. He left a life he loved; a life he earned and a life he fully enjoyed living with his soul’s companion, his wife Samantha Houck and their son Locke Emerson.

He is predeceased by his grandparents Warren and Gladys Prindle, and Leonard and Florence Spearing, who cherished watching him grow. Growing up in Philadelphia with his parents Gerry and Lanore (née Prindle) and his siblings Brendan (Meghan Hill) and Kendyl, Pat was adored. While he played soccer and baseball as a kid his true love was books. Where Brendan and Kendyl went big, Patrick preferred quiet and calm. You could almost see him thinking as he watched the world around him. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Susan Houck; father-in-law William Houck; brother-in-law Billy Houck; sister-in-law Colleen Volksdorf (Chris); his Godparents, Marianne Melillo and Christopher Spearing, as well as his beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.

The rough road of his young adult life led Pat to his purpose, his true self and ultimately to Sam. Through his evolution, Pat became a cornerstone on whom his parents could rely, a partner with whom his brother could run the Philadelphia Marathon, and above all, the role he cherished most: being Sam’s husband and Locke’s dad. After graduating Summa Cum Laude, first in his class, from Delaware Valley University for both his Bachelors and MBA, Pat used his education to uplift others as the Executive Director at Steps To Recovery Behavioral Health.

There was nothing Pat loved more than his family. He and Sam started as dedicated dog parents. They not only doted on Conan and Atilla, they also fostered many rescue dogs over the years. They always made room for a rescue. When they planted their roots in their home in Abington, they fully embraced each day with their son. Creating a home filled with true serenity and deep  joy, Pat and Sam loved welcoming their siblings and parents, friends and neighbors into their world. A quiet, philosophical man Pat shared his peaceful spirit with all who knew him. The countless people who are where they are because he took the time to listen, support, and uplift them know that the world is a much better place because Gerald Patrick graced it for far too short a time.
