Gloria Carroll Riggleman

Gloria Carroll Riggleman of Greenville passed from this life on August 3, 2022. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her including her daughter, Margaret Ackroyd, son-in-law, Harry, daughter-in-law, Ingrid Sadler-Riggleman, grandchildren, Steven Riggleman, James Riggleman, Elizabeth Ackroyd, Henry Ackroyd, and Joseph Ackroyd.  She was predeceased by her husband, James, and sons, Richard and Robert. A native of Washington, DC, Gloria  graduated from Bethesda Chevy Chase High School where she and her future husband, Jim, were high school sweethearts.  She went on to graduate from the University of Maryland with a BA in Early Childhood Education and teach kindergarten.  Gloria and her husband moved to Wilmington to pursue his career with DuPont.  Gloria cherished her role as a guide and educator for 46 years with the Hagley Museum and Library.  She especially loved working with children on Works’ Hill.  For more than 65 years, Gloria was an active and committed member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, a philanthropic education organization dedicated to supporting education for women throughout the world.  She proudly served all offices of  P.E.O.’s Delaware State Board, including president. Gloria met every challenge with determination and grace.  She enjoyed gardening and cooking with and for her family and had an avid interest in history and ornamental horticulture.  Gloria cherished time spent with her grandchildren cultivating a love of history and preservation.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Memorial Service on Wednesday August 17, 2022 at 2pm at MCCRERY AND HARRA FUNERAL HOME, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803.  Visitation will be from 1:30pm to 2pm.

Interment will be private.
