As a mother and grandmother (Omi), Hildegard Schubert’s life did not come to an end with her death on December 4th at the age of 81. Her spirit will continue through her daughters Petra Rowland and Yvonne McPeak, her grandsons Matthew Rowland, Nicholas Rowland, Brian McPeak and Jack McPeak, her son-in-laws Greg McPeak and Tim Rowland, as well as her beloved sister-in-law Erna Cummings. She will be remembered for her grateful spirit, sense of humor, optimistic outlook, and lover of all family gatherings and meals. Hildegard was born in Munich, Germany on January 22, 1940, immigrated to the US in 1964 and created a life devoted to raising her daughters, creating a beautiful home for her family and enjoying the simple things such as a great cup of coffee in the morning or the brilliance of a colorful flower. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Hildegard acknowledged the bounty of food in this country, as that was not always the case when she was growing up. When she worked in NYC she would take the remaining food from meetings and distribute it to those in need on her walk to Penn Station. Throwing away food was unimaginable and she made sure it made it to those who were hungry.
