Obituary – Joan Burns

Joan Louise Shellenberger Burns passed away on Thursday August 21th, 2024.   She was 92 years old.  Joan was born on September 6th, 1931 in Pottstown Pennsylvania to parents Harry and Lillian Shellenberger.  She grew up alongside her lifelong friend Judy Howland, who later introduced her to Robert Burns.  Joan and Robert were married in 1970.

Joan lived her life in service to others.  She was a devout Christian, attending and participating in the church for her entire life.  When she married Robert, she took on the care of his two children, John and Charles.  She spent many years of her life dedicated to BARC Developmental Services, and she was very involved in the Southampton Estates community.  As a grandmother and great-grandmother, she was always an active and enthusiastic supporter of extra-curricular activities, including musical, academic, and athletic events.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Lillian, her husband, Robert, and her son, John.  She is survived by her son, Charles, her grandchildren, Christopher and Ryan, and her great-grandchildren, Chase, Jack, Sophia, and Madelyn.

Joan’s life will be celebrated with a memorial service at Southampton Estates in Southampton PA on Thursday August 29th at 11:30am.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to BARC Developmental Services in memory of Joan Burns.
