Joyce Mathers Obituary

Joyce Ann (Kapralick) Mathers, a lifetime resident of Willow Grove, passed away on Friday March 12, 2021, surrounded by her children. She was 85 years old.

Joyce was born May 11, 1935 to John and Anna Kapralick ( Linke ). She was preceded in death by her husband Robert H Mathers Sr. in2020. Joyce is survived by her brother Robert Kapralick, her three children, Debora Mathers, Robert Jr. (Susan), Cindy Swiski (Ed) and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Joyce grew up on Fairhill Street in Willow Grove and attended Upper Moreland High School as did her children. She graduated from UMHS in 1953. She was a twirler, drum majorette and women’s basketball team member. She remained active with her friends from Upper Moreland and they were regular Saturday evening dinner companions at local eateries.

Joyce was a telephone operator in the Willow Grove Bell telephone office, worked in retail sales for The Pewter Cupboard in Doylestown and was accounts manager for Bob Sr. at Mathers Real Estate and Bob Jr. at RHM Real Estate in Willow Grove.

Joyce was kind, gentle, humble, faithful, selfless, a devoted wife, mother and Mom-mom. She loved unconditionally and always welcomed family, friends, and neighbors into her beautiful home with warmth that made them feel special. Joyce attended many of her children and grandchildren’s sports, dance recitals, UMHS band competitions, and activities throughout the years. She was an angel in disguise to those who loved her.

She was a longtime member of Willow Grove United Methodist Church where she served as a member of the decorating guild. Joyce and Bob mentored the Youth Group for the Willow Grove United Methodist Church in the 1970’s.  She served as a volunteer with Abington Meals on Wheels for many years.

Joyce enjoyed RV camping with her family. She also loved staying in Ocean City N.J. with family and friends. She always had a puzzle going in her home or apartment for the grown children and grandchildren to enjoy with her.  Joyce enjoyed decorating her home for the holidays, and hosting dinners for friends and family.

She loved to lend a helping hand to care for family, friends, and neighbors whenever the need arose. Mom-mom always had dilly bars, tasty-cakes, pretzel rods or cookies for a treat when her children and grandchildren visited her home.  When asked how she was doing Joyce always answered, “super fine”. Her family finds comfort knowing she is super fine for eternity!

Donation may be made in memory of her to Willow Grove United Methodist Church Appalachia Service Project Group, 34 North York Road, Willow Grove, PA, 19090 .

There will be a memorial service announced at a later date when the family can gather and greet friends and community members safely.
