Mary Louise Vassalluzzo, 85, passed into eternal life on Mother's Day, May 10, 2026.
Born in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, graduate of Nativity B.V.M. High School, Pottsville, PA and Misericordia School of Nursing in Philadelphia. Mary Lou worked as a Registered Nurse on the cardiac floor at Misericordia Hospital before turning to care for the mentally and physically challenged at The Woods School in Langhorne, PA. She was introduced to Italo (Tally), her beloved husband of 58 years, by his brother, the Medical Director at The Woods School.
Mary Lou and Tally wed in 1967 and raised their children in Ardsley, PA where they were active members of Queen of Peace parish. A devoted wife and mother, sister and friend, Mary Lou lived a life of caring for and serving others. After a 13 year pause to focus on raising her children, she returned to nursing, serving as Nurse Coordinator and CPR Trainer for Lynch Community Homes in Willow Grove until she retired in the early 2000s.
A talented baker, cook, gardener and orchid grower, everyone looked forward to the incredible assortment (40 plus varieties!) of cookies and biscotti at Christmas that she would bake and share with family, friends, and neighbors. Mary Lou could always be counted on for a delicious home-baked dessert at any and all gatherings. She loved summertime family vacations at the Jersey shore, and in later years, trips with Tally to Winter Harbor, Maine where they rented a cottage and explored the beauty of New England.
Mary Lou is survived by her husband, Italo, daughter, Kathleen and her husband Jeff, and son, Matthew. She is predeceased by her mother, Mary Kovach Swoyer, sister Helen Kozak (husband Stephen), and brothers, Stephen Swoyer (wife Barbara) and Paul Swoyer.
Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on May 27, 2025 from 9:30am to 10:30am at Queen of Peace Church, 820 North Hills Ave., Ardsley, PA 19038. Memorial Mass to follow at 10:30am.
