Robert Wakefield Kilgore Obituary-=

Robert Wakefield Kilgore passed away at his home in Huntingdon Valley, PA on July 16, 2024 at the age of 86 years.  He was born March 31, 1938, in Bronxville, NY and raised on a leased farm in Chester, NJ.  Bob earned a BA in history from William and Mary College, performed masters work in anthropology at University of Seattle and a masters in social work from Temple University.  He served 3 years in the US Army Security Agency from ’61-‘64, two of which had him stationed in South Korea.  Settling in Philadelphia in 1968 he worked as a social worker in the Philadelphia Department of Public Welfare for 10 years. He went on to follow a long-time interest in massage therapy to become certified in the field and worked as a massage therapist for 35 years.

He married Rosalyn Glidden of Arlington, VA in 1963, who was a fellow student at William and Mary.  Their 48-year union ended with her passing in 2011.   He is survived by his daughter, Alyssa Clarke of Northland, New Zealand; a son, Jess W. Kilgore of Richmond, VA.; grandaughter Taylor Somerville of Columbus, OH., granddaughter K. Rose Kilgore of San Bruno, CA. and his brother, Jess B. Kilgore of Burlington, VT.  Bob was preceded in death by his brother David Kilgore (2023); father Robert M. Kilgore, Jr. (1985) and mother Mildred Kilgore (1983).

Relatives and friends are invited to Robert's visitation on Friday July 26, 2024 from 9:30am to 10:30am at the John J. Bryers Funeral Home, 406 Easton Road, Willow Grove PA 19090.  A Time of Remembrance will follow at 10:30am when friends and relatives can share memories and stories of Robert.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Robert’s name to The Nature Conservancy.
