Samuel R. Swindells, 78, of Willow Grove, passed on July 13, 2021. He is survived by his children, Scott Swindells (Sarah), Gregory Swindells (Amber), and Samantha Pontecorvo (Nick), his brothers, Pete Swindells (Dawn) and Dave Swindells, and his grandchildren, A.J., Aiden, Penelope, Rylan, Tyler, and Ella.
Sam was a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of St. David RC Church, Willow Grove VFW Post 3612, and Willow Grove Rotary Club. Sam was a Certified Financial Planner for many years. Many knew him as “Coach Sam” during his many years in Upper Moreland Little League. His friends growing up on Macomb Street knew him as a great left-handed pitcher, who was all-city in Washington, DC. His children knew him as a man who loved family and gave generously of his time. His six grandchildren knew him as Grampa Sam, Papa Sam, or Poppins. Countless others knew him as a man of service, through the Rotary Club, the homework club, his trips to take children of inmates to visit their fathers in prison, his volunteerism in political campaigns, and his work with St. David RC church. Sam always put others above himself, touching so many lives in the process.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Wednesday evening, July 21, 2021, from 6 pm to 8 pm, at the John J. Bryers Funeral Home, 406 Easton Rd., Willow Grove, PA 19090, and on Thursday morning, July 22, 2021, from 9:30 am to 10:15 am, at St. David RC Church, 316 Easton Rd., Willow Grove, PA 19090. A funeral mass will follow at 10:30 am.
Interment will be held at a later date at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery.
