Sandra Sour Obituary

Sandra Sour

April 21, 1957 – April 12, 2019

Sandra Sour passed away on April 12 with her family by her side after a sudden and unexpected illness. Sandy was born on April 21, 1957 in the state of California, and was raised in orphanages and foster homes. In her early 20s, she left California, traveled across the United States, and eventually settled in Pennsylvania. There she met her best friend, Marjorie Miller. Sandy became an important part of the Miller family, and her friendship with Marjorie spanned three decades.

Sandy was a loyal, dedicated and hard worker, and although she struggled with dyslexia all of her life, she had a productive and successful career at Drexelbrook Engineering Company as a machinist. She was certified in welding, basic electronics and machine shop.  For the past 15 years, Sandy worked for Growth Horizons, Inc., in Horsham, PA, as a residential care provider for individuals with developmental delays and mental illness issues. She was an excellent caregiver and was dedicated to treating all of her clients with patience and respect.

Sandy loved working with her hands, especially building Lego models and woodworking.  She enjoyed traveling and had memorable trips to Bermuda, the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, San Francisco, North Carolina, and Disney World, as well as many vacations and day-trips with her family and friends to places across Pennsylvania including Lancaster, State College, Sharon, and New Hope. She loved visiting restaurants, orchards and other attractions in the Philadelphia region. She also joined the Miller/Wheeler/Rimbey clan for their annual family reunion in Deep Creek Lake, MD, for many years.  One of Sandy’s favorite pastimes was playing the slot machines at casinos in Atlantic City and Philadelphia. In addition, she was an amazing cook, who was very serious about using her barbeque grill and smoker to make delicious meals for her family.

Sandy will be greatly missed by her coworkers, friends and family including Marjorie Miller; her dog, Dewey; Janine and Dan Barber; Glenn and Courtney Miller; her nephew Jeremy Miller and his wife Marcie; nephew Nicholas Barber and his fiancée Ashleigh Jugan; her niece Kara Barber and her partner Evan Wise, and nephew Connor Ivan. Her niece and nephews are fortunate to have had Sandy in their lives, always supporting them and bursting with pride at their many accomplishments.  “Aunt Sandy” attended every school graduation, sporting event, award ceremony, birthday party and other lifetime celebrations. She loved her niece and nephews unconditionally and would have done anything for them.

Sandy overcame so many obstacles in her life. She is an inspiration to everyone who knew her.
