Went to be with the Lord June 18, 2020 at Telford Lutheran Home where he had just celebrated his 90th Birthday May 20th.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years Anne Louise Becker nee(Hartman). Proud Father of sons William lll, (Monica), Stephen M., and daughters Joanne M. Cosminski, & Carol Doering (Todd). 8 wonderful grandchildren and 4 beautiful great grandchildren.
Originally from the West Oak Lane section of Philadelphia, He and Anne resided in Willow Grove for the past 54 years.
Mr Becker joined the Navy reserve while he was still in High School. He was called to active duty at the onset of the Korean War and served aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. PRINCETON CV-37 from 1950-1952. He later served as a Navy court marshal reporter at the Philadelphia Naval Base.
Upon discharge from the navy, he joined Reliance Insurance Company as a marine underwriter. He received several promotions, serving as Marine Special Agent and Supervisor of their Baltimore Branch. He returned to Philadelphia as Marine Manager of the Philadelphia office and in 1968 was promoted to Assistant Branch Manager of their New York City office. He resigned from Reliance in 1970, after 18 years to form his own general insurance agency in Willow Grove PA.
He graduated from Northeast Catholic High School in 1948. He attended both LaSalle College and the University of Baltimore. He was a life member of The Navy League. Other memberships include The American Legion & VFW. He was a former lector and past president of the Home & School Association at St. David’s church where Bill & Anne we’re proud members for 54 years.
His favorite place was where he and Anne enjoyed 24 summers on the Bay in OCNJ where they spent countless hours enjoying the sunsets & life in general.
Bill will be dearly missed by all of his family, he was blessed with a wonderful life of 90 years and for that we are so very thankful.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing at The John J. Bryers Funeral Home 406 N. Easton Road Willow Grove PA 19090, on Tuesday, June 30th from 9am- 10am.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am at the church of St.David 316 N. Easton Road, Willow Grove PA 19090. Internment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
In lieu of Flowers the family asks that donations would be made to The Sisters of Mercy by going to Sistersofmercy.org and choosing Mid Atlantic chapter to ensure Philadelphia benefits.
